The state run union of China is requesting that fast food powerhouses McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut to pay up wages of a number of part time workers that are claiming to have been not fully paid their wages, reported the state media.
This call to action by All-China Federation of Trade Union was brought about following an investigation that eventually confirmed what the media had been reporting about the treatment of part time fast food staff.
An official from the All-China Federation of Trade Union stated that the union will take up any cause that is violating the rights of workers. The Guangdong branch of the union will be handling the negotiations and will be representing over 3000 part time employees that majority of who are in college.
The Chinese newspaper the News Express is responsible for bringing these worker issues to light. They reported that the part time fast food workers employed by these companies were being paid anywhere up to at least 40% less then the country’s minimum wage of 7.5 yuan an hour.
