E.ON AG and Lunar Energy in tidal power project partnership to provide the UK with 8 MW capacity.
The company E.ON AG in addition to their partner Lunar Energy have released a joint statement stating their impending plans to develop and build generators run by tidal power that will be capable of generating a capacity of 8 MW. These generators will be located along the west coast of England.
The plan the two companies are currently trying to develop will utilize the usage of tidal streams. Basically tidal streams are very fast moving currents, which occur due to the falling and the rising of the tides. These tidal streams could be used to operate a number of good-sized turbines located on the bottom of the sea.
The partnered companies have stated that they have plans to invest large sums of money into this project, which is likely to produce energy able to produce an adequate amount of energy for close to 5,000 homes.
As it stands right now the company would like to figure these plans being scheduled to have everything online sometime around the year 2010.
In a statement made by the head of E.ON AG they state that a project involving a tidal stream of this magnitude, really one of the largest in size in the entire world, will really give them the opportunity to get a much better understanding on the different manners in which to achieve harnessing tidal power. Additionally the opportunity to be involved with a way to begin producing a cleaner power that is both reliable and very plentiful will present itself.
